Orthodontics · Evansville
Jafari Orthodontics helps adults, and parents of teens, weigh braces against clear aligners. Dr. Jafari examines you first, then tells you plainly what each one would ask of you.
Which are you leaning toward?

The big question
Both move teeth. They ask different things of you. Dr. Jafari decides what fits your bite; this is what each one would mean day to day.
| Braces | Clear aligners | |
|---|---|---|
| Who it suits | BracesTeeth and bites that need steady, controlled movement, and people who would rather not manage trays | Clear alignersBites the orthodontist judges a good fit, and people who will wear the trays nearly all day |
| How the visits go | BracesYou come to the chair for adjustments, where wires are changed and the teeth are checked | Clear alignersYou change to your next trays at home. Visits are for check-ins, new trays and a look at how the teeth are tracking |
| What you do at home | BracesBrush and floss around the brackets, and follow the list of foods to avoid | Clear alignersTake the trays out to eat and brush, and put them back in, as the orthodontist directs |
| Eating | BracesHard and sticky foods can loosen brackets, so you get a list | Clear alignersTrays come out for meals, so food is not limited, but teeth need cleaning before trays go back in |
| If something goes wrong | BracesA loose bracket or a poking wire means a call to us, and sometimes a visit | Clear alignersA lost or cracked tray means a call to us, and we tell you what to do until a new one is made |
| After treatment | BracesThe brackets come off and you start wearing a retainer, as Dr. Jafari directs | Clear alignersThe last set of trays is followed by a retainer, as Dr. Jafari directs |
What we do
Each page says what happens, what it feels like, the risks and how it is billed.
The first visit
A talk, an exam, the records Dr. Jafari needs and a written estimate.
At the first visit Dr. Jafari asks what you want, looks at your teeth and bite, and takes the records she needs. She tells you which option she thinks fits, what it would ask of you, what else you could do and what happens if you wait. You leave with the estimate in writing and time to decide.

Questions
We file claims for you with dental plans that include orthodontic benefits, and we're out of network with the rest. Plans differ a lot in what they pay toward braces or aligners, and some pay nothing for adults. We check your benefits before the first visit and tell you what we find; the plan decides what it pays.
You get a written estimate before treatment, and you can ask for it when you book. It lists what we expect to do and what each part costs. Financing is offered by third-party lenders. Approval and terms are set by the lender.
Neither needs numbing. Teeth can feel tender for a few days after braces go on, after an adjustment, or when you start a new set of trays. Soft food helps, and you can ask for a break at any visit.
We see teens and adults. A parent or guardian comes to a teen's first visit and stays as long as they like. For a younger child, call us and we'll tell you whether a visit makes sense now.
Yes. You get one before any treatment, and nothing starts until you say yes.
